Palestine Comedy Club
This week I had the privilege to see the brand new documentary; Palestine Comedy Club, and then host the Q&A with some of the cast and crew.
Yes, a comedy club in Palestine, run by and featuring Palestinian comedians, doing comedy to Palestinian audiences, and to anyone else lucky to visit them in the West Bank. However, due to the ongoing illegal occupation, their efforts are throttled at every turn, their voices even prevented to tell jokes that would otherwise be a welcome respite from the fresh mourning that comes with each day.
Thanks to Dr Sam Beale; Senior Lecturer in Theatre Arts, and the political comedy heavyweight Mark Thomas, Palestine Comedy Club has become a reality, all captured in an insightful, humanising, tragic and open-ended documentary about the diversity of the Palestinian experience under the crushing dehumanising illegal occupation they have to live under.
This documentary produced by Charlotte Knowles and directed by Palestinian Director Regash, is in the final stages of completion and will be available online for everyone to watch across the world, however the plight of the Palestine Comedy Club has just begun. With the current situation preventing Palestinian voices from being heard within Palestine, the Palestine Comedy Club is reaching out to the rest of the world, as they attempt to bring authentic Palestinian voices to audiences around the world. As comedy has become more diverse in the last 10-20 years, the voices of Palestinians are still unheard, and will now begin to flourish in the arts.
It is an honour to help bring the Palestine Comedy Club to anywhere and everywhere we can, so that the voices of Palestinians can be heard far and wide, as one of the greatest humanitarian causes of our time.
